Two people are feared dead, while eight others have sustained injuries in a road accident involving an articulated truck carrying cement, a Toyota Voxy and several motorbikes on the Walewale Road on Sunday, October 18, 2026.
The Municipal Chief Executive for West Mamprusi, Mohammed Jabaah, confirmed the casualties in an interview with Accra-based Citi News, stating that eight people were injured in the crash.
The accident reportedly occurred when the articulated truck, travelling from Walewale, collided with the Toyota Voxy, which was heading from Bolgatanga towards Tamale.
Several motorbike riders were also caught up in the collision, while the truck reportedly crashed into electricity poles.
The exact circumstances leading to the accident remain unclear, with differing accounts of which vehicle lost control.
While initial reports suggested the articulated truck lost control, Mr Jabaah attributed the crash to the Toyota Voxy.
“There was a collision between the articulated truck, which was carrying POP cement, and the Toyota Voxy. The Voxy lost control, resulting in the accident, involving several vehicles. Two people died and eight were injured,” he said.
The deceased are reported to include a female student and a motorbike rider.
The injured victims were transported to the Tamale Teaching Hospital and other health facilities for treatment. Some are said to be in critical condition.
Investigations are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision and determine the cause of the accident.
