The National Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) has said it is set to commence its South-West Zonal Peace Accord Summit and Dialogue, as the first phase of a nationwide campaign to promote religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence among Nigerian youths.
The summit is being organised under the National Christian-Muslim Youth Peace Accord Movement, an initiative designed to strengthen interfaith relations and mobilise young people across the country’s six geopolitical zones for peacebuilding.
YOWICAN, in a statement signed by its national chairman, Ven. Ademola Daniel Arowolo, and national secretary, Nehemiah Nanmwa Micheal, said the South-West engagement would officially launch the movement’s zonal activities.
The organisation said the nationwide campaign would focus on fostering understanding between Christian and Muslim communities, encouraging dialogue across religious divides and promoting national unity.
It added that the initiative was part of its broader efforts to involve young people in addressing challenges to peaceful coexistence and building a more united Nigeria.
The movement’s activities are expected to extend across all six geopolitical zones, with the aim of encouraging youth participation in peace initiatives and strengthening relationships among communities of different religious backgrounds.
Meanwhile, YOWICAN congratulated Seyi Tinubu, the Okanlomo of Yorubaland and recipient of its National Peace Ambassador Award, on his 41st birthday.
Tinubu, was described by the organisation as a youth advocate and philanthropist whose interests in youth empowerment, community development and national unity align with the objectives of its peacebuilding initiative.
The organisation also commended support for programmes promoting leadership development and peaceful coexistence, expressing hope that efforts to empower young people would contribute to Nigeria’s development.
YOWICAN reiterated its commitment to initiatives that promote interfaith harmony and peaceful relations, emphasising the importance of engaging young Nigerians in building a peaceful and prosperous nation.
