The Kano State Police Command has foiled a kidnapping attempt in Garun Mallam Town, Garun Mallam Local Government Area, rescuing the Sarkin Noman Kano, Alhaji Yusif Nadabo, who was abducted during the attack.
The incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, when suspected bandits stormed the town and began shooting sporadically into the air.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the attackers abducted Alhaji Nadabo during the operation and shot three residents.
The injured victims were identified as Yusif Nasiru, 20; Salisu Garba, 20; and Ibrahim Hassan, 20, all residents of Garun Mallam Town.
The Command said that immediately after receiving the distress call, tactical and patrol teams, supported by personnel from neighbouring divisions, were mobilised to the scene.
The police, working with members of the local community, pursued the attackers, forcing them to abandon the kidnapped traditional title holder and flee.
The Sarkin Noman Kano was subsequently rescued unhurt.
The three injured victims and the rescued traditional title holder were taken to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for medical attention.
The Command said it had deployed confidence-building patrols in and around Garun Mallam Town to prevent further attacks, while a manhunt had been launched for the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the prompt response of the police teams and appreciated residents, vigilantes and members of the Neighbourhood Watch Corps for their cooperation and bravery during the rescue operation.
He urged residents to remain calm and provide credible information that could assist the police in apprehending the perpetrators.
The Police Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across Kano State.
