The National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have dismissed reports suggesting that Golden Eaglets coach Eboboritse Uwejamomere has been appointed assistant coach of Nigeria’s U-23 men’s national team, the Olympic Eagles.
Uwejamomere, who led the Golden Eaglets at the 2026 WAFU B U-17 Boys Tournament in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, has not been included in the technical crew of the U-23 team, according to senior officials of both organisations.
A senior NSC official and an NFF official, who spoke to BSN Sports on the condition of anonymity, separately denied the reports linking the young coach to the Olympic Eagles’ backroom staff.
“There is no truth in that report,” the NSC official said, noting that Uwejamomere has continued to serve Nigerian football in other technical capacities.
“We all know that Eboboritse has been working as a video analyst with the Super Eagles for the past four years. He was also the video analyst for the Super Falcons at the last Olympic Games. So, he is not jobless,” the official added.
An NFF official also dismissed the speculation, insisting that no decision had been made to add the Golden Eaglets coach to the U-23 technical crew.
“As far as we are concerned, nobody has proposed or appointed the Golden Eaglets coach to the U-23 Eagles team. We have a complete backroom staff ahead of the team’s 2028 Olympic Games qualifying campaign,” the official said.
The clarification comes ahead of Nigeria’s two-legged qualifying encounter against the Democratic Republic of Congo in the race to qualify for the 2027 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, which serves as Africa’s qualifying tournament for men’s football at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
Nigeria are scheduled to face DR Congo away in the first leg on November 9, 2026, before hosting the return fixture on November 17, 2026.
The Olympic Eagles will be seeking a positive result over the two legs as they pursue qualification for the continental tournament and keep their Olympic ambitions on track
