Michael Carrick’s brutal response to Bruno Fernandes leaves Man Utd captain with nowhere to hide

Michael Carrick has responded bluntly to Bruno Fernandes’ comments on the team’s tactics.

Another Champions League defeat has ended in another Manchester United meltdown.

This time it is club captain Bruno Fernandes, who called out the tactics from the coaching staff, suggesting that they contributed to the team’s 4-1 loss.

Fernandes told TNT Sports: “It’s a decision from the staff to not press man to man and sometimes leave space behind and try to get the ball, wait for them, but sometimes when you give space to these teams they get confidence.”

Even if Fernandes’ comments were intended to be constructive, he has put his coaching staff on blast, and of course, Michael Carrick was asked about them.

Carrick told his press conference: “There’s a little bit on whatever system you play, whatever tactics you play, if you don’t run, you don’t run forward, you don’t run back, you ain’t gonna win.”

It’s all getting messy at Manchester United

There are questions over Michael Carrick’s future, and his apology to the fans at the final whistle felt eerily similar to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s last game in charge.

Bruno Fernandes’ comments on the tactics follow Lisandro Martinez hitting out at the board last week.

Meanwhile Manchester United have won only two of 11 games this season.

Bruno Fernandes and the rest of the players are playing like they have lost belief, and Michael Carrick seems out of ideas to turn this situation around.

They now appear to be turning on each other – and this is not good for anybody.
