DODOMA: THE Tanzanian government is developing measures to make it easier for Tanzanians to obtain National Identification Authority (NIDA) numbers and identity cards, including through digital systems that will allow citizens to access the services from their locations.
Prime Minister Dr Mwigulu Nchemba revealed this at the Parliament in Dodoma on Thursday during the Question and Answer session stating that the government was also planning to reach citizens in rural areas and issue NIDA numbers in bulk as part of efforts to reduce the lengthy procedures currently involved in obtaining identification documents.
The Premier was responding to a question from a Special Seats MP Sikudhani Chikambu who asked what measures the government was taking to ensure every citizen could obtain a NIDA number and identity card without going through lengthy and potentially challenging procedures.
Elaborating, he said the government is continuing discussions with relevant authorities on ways to streamline the process and reduce the procedures involved in obtaining NIDA identification cards.

“The government recognised the importance of ensuring every citizen has a NIDA identification card and the planned digital solutions and outreach initiatives will bring NIDA services closer to citizens and make access to national identification more convenient,” he said.
