As Uganda battles Sudan in the first semi-final clash of the 2026 CECAFA U-20 championship at the Uhuru stadium (Dar-es-salaam), there is a lot at stake.

The victor of this contest will qualify for the upcoming AFCON U-20 championship due in Ghana, West Africa.

The duel comes barely days after these two countries clashed in a Group B contest with Uganda winning 1-0 courtesy of Amour Munogera’s solitary goal.

Uganda’s explosive wide-man Elvis Opakrwoth, one of the team’s talismen anticipates a clash of titans in the semi-final battle.

Opakrwoth, a student at the newly crowned FEASSA football champions St Mary’s Kitende dubs the game as a do-or-die.

“This will be another game altogether” he opens up. “Since the two countries faced off, there is a sketch of how one plays and this makes it even harder. It will be a do-or-die” he adds.

“I encourage my teammates to show up on the day and fight for the flag. We need to secure qualification to AFCON U-20 finals” he speaks with courage.

Uganda opened with a comprehensive 4-1 victory Djibouti before triumphing 1-0 over Sudan in the second game.

Against Djibouti, Uganda scored through Isima Mulala Magala and Genesis Ocen Odiya who each got a brace.

Sudan who also beat Djibouti 3-0 finished as the second placed side in the three group contest.

The other semi-final comes at 4 PM when the host country, Tanzania will square up against Burundi to determine who faces Uganda or Sudan in Thursday’s final.

Tanzania has been ruthless, scoring 7 goals and conceding none during the Group A engagements.
