Kaizer Chiefs rumours: Mokwana’s major red flag, Da Cruz to leave?

Today’s Kaizer Chiefs rumour wrap looks at an imminent deal for Elias Mokwana and the future of manager Fernando Da Cruz.

Is Mokwana a red flag for Chiefs?

Elias Mokwana moved to Saudi Pro League side Al Hazem on loan from Esperance in August 2025. The ex-Sekhukhune man played 24 times in the 2025-26 Saudi Pro League season, scoring once and supplying three assists. That’s a pretty poor direct output of goal contributions, but what’s even more worrying is his disciplinary record. In those 24 appearances, Mokwana picked up** six yellow cards**, an average of a booking every four games. If the Glamour Boys want to coax the best out of Mokwana, this is an issue they’ll need to address.

Kaizer Chiefs lose their unbeaten record

After only nine games of the new Betway Premiership campaign, Chiefs already trail leaders Sundowns by 12 points and Pirates by 11. They’ve only won two of their last nine clashes across all competitions and drawn more matches than they’ve won in the Betway Premiership. They’ll have to stew over Saturday’s defeat to Pirates for weeks, with a date for their Carling Knockout clash with Siwelele not yet confirmed.

Is Da Cruz a dead man walking?

Chiefs are already out of the CAF Confederation Cup after losing to Red Arrows on penalties. They also lost in the quarters of the MTN8 against Golden Arrows, so defeat in their upcoming Carling Knockout clash against Siwelele could be the final straw for the board. Is his job hinging on that game? Chiefs already trail Sundowns by 12 points in the Betway Premiership after only nine matches.
