Tanzania commits to support its old schools as Tosamaganga marks its Centenary Jubilee

DODOMA: THE Tanzanian government has pledged to continue allocating funds for the renovation of old secondary schools across the country, including Tosamaganga Secondary School in Iringa Region, which is marking its centenary anniversary.

The commitment was made in Parliament in Dodoma by Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI), Festo Dugange, in response to a question from Kalenga MP Jackson Kiswaga, who wanted to know when the government would release funds to complete the renovation of the school.

Dugange said that between the 2015/16 and 2022/23 financial years, the government spent 97.92bn/- to renovate 89 old secondary schools across the country, including Tosamaganga Secondary School.

He said Tosamaganga had received Sh867 million, which was used to renovate 20 classrooms, three teachers’ offices, a workshop, two administration blocks, two dormitories, a library, two halls, a kitchen, a food store and six toilet cubicles.

However, Dugange said six dormitories, two classrooms and 28 teachers’ houses at the school were yet to be renovated, adding that the government would continue allocating funds for the remaining renovation work.

He also called on former students of Tosamaganga, including himself and Professor Palamagamba Kabudi, to attend the school’s centenary celebrations and contribute towards the renovation of the school as well as the purchase of a school bus.
