Oil host communities back FRSC boss, hail leadership

The Host Communities of Nigeria Producing Oil and Gas and Pipeline Impacted States has expressed solidarity with the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed, commending his leadership and relationship with communities across the country.

The group, in a statement signed by its Federal Representative for Abia State, Kelechi Mbonu, on Thursday, praised the Corps Marshal for his “exemplary leadership, humility and magnanimity” towards host communities.

HOSCON said the Corps Marshal’s willingness to listen to and engage with host communities demonstrated a responsible and people-oriented approach to leadership.

“His willingness to listen, engage and accommodate the legitimate concerns of host communities is a demonstration of responsible and people-oriented leadership. For this, we say thank you,” the group stated.

The organisation also acknowledged that leadership of a major institution such as the FRSC could attract criticism and opposition, urging Mohammed not to allow detractors to distract him from his responsibilities.

“We encourage you to remain focused on the God-given responsibility entrusted to you and continue to provide the leadership required to make Nigerian roads safer,” HOSCON said.

The group described the FRSC as a critical institution responsible for protecting lives, reducing avoidable deaths and promoting discipline among road users.

It urged the Corps Marshal to remain committed to his duties and continue to lead with “courage, fairness and dedication.”

HOSCON further described Mohammed as “the father of the Nigerian roads,” saying it recognised the responsibility associated with his position.

“We particularly commend his efforts to strengthen relationships between the FRSC and the communities within which it operates.

“We believe that sustainable institutional success is achieved when government agencies and host communities work together in an atmosphere of mutual respect, understanding and partnership,” the statement added.

The group, therefore, urged the Corps Marshal to remain focused despite criticism.

“Our message is therefore simple: Do not be distracted. Do not be discouraged. Continue the good work.

“The people can see those who are genuinely working to serve the nation. History will ultimately distinguish between those who build and those who merely criticise,” HOSCON stated.

The organisation reaffirmed its confidence, solidarity and support for the Corps Marshal and his leadership of the FRSC.
