Atiku Camp Breaks Silence Following Circulation of ‘Campaign Timetable’

The Presidential Campaign Council of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has disowned an unsigned campaign timetable circulating on social media.

The council urged Nigerians, party members, leaders and other stakeholders to disregard the timetable.

It described the document as unauthorised and warning against treating it as an official schedule of campaign activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a press statement signed by Kola Ologbondiyan, Director of Media and Publicity of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, the council said it had no connection with the document currently in circulation.

“The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council (ADC-PCC) has disowned an unsigned campaign timetable currently in circulation, clarifying that the document did not emanate from the Council or its campaign office,” the statement said.

“Accordingly, all members and stakeholders are urged to disregard the document and await official communications from the ADC-PCC on campaign activities and schedules,” Ologbondiyan added.

The clarification follows the circulation of a document bearing the names of several states and proposed dates for rallies, town hall meetings and other political activities.

The timetable also contains details of proposed visits to different locations across the country, beginning with Sokoto State on October 31, 2026, and extending to a closing rally scheduled for Adamawa State on January 11, 2027.

The document, which carries the heading of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council and its Directorate of Organization and Field Operation, lists proposed activities in several states, including Kebbi, Zamfara, Ogun, Oyo, Rivers, Delta, Edo, Cross River, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Benue, Plateau, Kaduna, Kano and Borno.

Meanwhile, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who is the ADC presidential candidate, recently criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration over its borrowing plans and raised concerns about the management of public funds ahead of the next general elections.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 27, Atiku accused the Tinubu administration of potentially using fresh external loans to finance political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.

His allegation followed President Tinubu’s request for legislative approval to obtain $20.52 billion and €1.045 billion in external loans to finance projects and programmes across different sectors of the Nigerian economy.

Atiku argued that the proposed borrowing reinforced his earlier warning that the Federal Government was preparing to secure up to $20 billion in loans associated with the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project.

“On October 12, I warned Nigerians that President Tinubu was reportedly preparing to borrow up to $20 billion in connection with the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. I asked him to confirm or deny the plan and publish the accounts. He did neither. Today, he has asked the Senate to approve $20.52 billion and €1.045 billion in external loans. My warning has been vindicated,” Atiku said.

The former vice president questioned the absence of detailed information about the projects to be financed with the proposed loans, arguing that Nigerians deserved to know how the funds would be spent, which contractors would execute the projects and what repayment obligations the country would face.

“The President has listed broad sectors but has not provided a project-by-project account of what this enormous borrowing will fund. Nigerians have not been given clear project details, costs, locations or contractors to scrutinise,” he said.

Atiku also raised concerns about the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, alleging that changes to the route had created questions about the management of funds associated with the project.

“That silence is especially troubling given the highway’s inland rerouting. Nigerians have every right to ask whether it is becoming a pipeline for borrowed money to reach Tinubu’s campaigners and favoured contractors,” he stated.

He further questioned the timing of the borrowing request, arguing that the Federal Government should provide comprehensive details before the National Assembly considers approving additional external debt.

“Is this a development plan for Nigerians or a campaign financing scheme dressed up as infrastructure?” Atiku asked.

The ADC chieftain called on the National Assembly to withhold approval for the proposed loans until the government publishes detailed documentation covering the projects, contracts, costs, contractors, loan terms and repayment obligations.

“The National Assembly must not approve a single dollar until the President publishes every project, contract, cost, contractor, loan term and repayment obligation,” he said.

Atiku also pledged to scrutinise loans obtained during the final year of Tinubu’s administration if he became president, warning that any borrowing found to have violated constitutional or statutory requirements would be challenged.
