Liberia: Center for Peace Education Boss Preaches Doctrine of Peace On World Peace Day

MONROVIA – As Liberia celebrated World Peace Day on Monday, September 21, the Founder and Executive Director for the Center for Peace Education, Dr. Mainlehwon Ebenezer Vonhm, says he is reminded that true peace is not merely the absence of war, but the deliberate choice to choose understanding over violence every single day.

In his peace message, Dr. Vonhm recalled that for the past 17 years, the Center for Peace Education has witnessed tremendous success planting seeds of peace across Liberia’s war-affected communities.

‘’In a society bearing the deep scars of past conflict, our mission has been clear, oh yes, to imbue our youth with the vital skills, constructive attitudes and moral knowledge needed to reject violence and embrace dialogue,’’ Dr. Vonhm stated.

According to him, over these past months, Liberian students have lived these value, yes indeed, learning that mediation builds bridges, that negotiation seeks win-win solutions and that active nonviolence requires the immense courage to hate injustice while honoring human life.

He said Liberian children are not just tomorrow’s leaders, they are the essential building blocks for sustainable peace in Liberia today.

‘‘When we equip a child to resolve conflict with an empathetic heart and a handshake rather than an insult or a clenched fist, we secure the future of our entire nation,’’ Dr. Vonhm intimated. ‘‘On this International Day of Peace, let us recommit to nurturing these young peacemakers and building a Liberia founded on justice, reconciliation and lasting harmony for all!,’’ he added.

Meanwhile, observing the Day of International Peace, students, parents and teachers paraded the principal streets of Brewerville, outside Monrovia. During the indoor program, students, who were taught Peace, recited recitation and poems. Others performed drama and said the CPE peace pledge.

At the program, students Martha Quictal and Franklin Natt were selected as winners of the VON-VON Scholarship Award for 2026-2027 School Year. Speaking in appreciation, student Martha Quictal thanked Dr. Vonhm for helping in cutting down the stress of school fees from their parents this school year.

She called on her colleagues who were not lucky to have been selected this time to have the hope for next time.
