Thailand will end its 60-day visa exemption system for certain travelers from Sept. 15, introducing new 30- and 15-day visa-free periods and updating its visa-on-arrival scheme.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand said the new rules will take effect Sept. 15, 2026, following the publication of related Interior Ministry announcements in the Royal Thai Government Gazette on Aug. 31.
Under the new system, citizens of 60 countries and territories will be eligible to enter Thailand without a visa for tourism stays of up to 30 days. The list includes several Arab countries, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, as well as countries in Europe, Asia and the Americas.
Morocco is not included on the new list, meaning Moroccan passport holders will no longer qualify for the 30-day visa exemption from Sept. 15, after previously benefiting from visa-free stays of up to 60 days.
Citizens of Seychelles and Mauritius will instead be eligible for 15-day visa-free stays, while citizens of Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia will qualify for visas on arrival.
Thailand has also introduced specific rules for travelers entering through land border crossings. Travelers eligible for the 30-day visa exemption will be allowed to enter by land a maximum of twice per calendar year, with exemptions for citizens of Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and Singapore, as well as other nationalities that may be designated by the relevant minister.
The changes follow a review of Thailand’s visa-exemption policy. The Tourism Authority announced in May that authorities were considering reorganizing the 60-day visa-free system before updating the details in July.
The authority said bilateral agreements and other entry arrangements will remain in effect and may allow citizens of certain countries to enter Thailand without a visa for 90, 30 or 14 days, depending on the applicable agreement.
It urged travelers to check the entry requirements applicable to their nationality before traveling to Thailand, particularly ahead of the new rules taking effect Sept. 15.
