New Patriotic Party (NPP) Women’s Organiser Hawa Koomson has criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for allowing the suspended headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School(SHTS) to remain in the Juaben Constituency Chairmanship race, insisting he will not die if he steps aside for investigations to be completed.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Madam Koomson argued that withdrawing from the contest would rather improve the NDC’s image by showing that the party allows justice and truth to prevail.
“He won’t die if he doesn’t contest this election; instead, it will rather put the NDC in a good light because they allowed justice and truth to prevail,” she said.
She questioned the strength of the defence being offered for the accused headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai, who is facing allegations of sexual misconduct involving female students.
“Have the victims come out to say it is not true? How about the teachers who the issue was reported to?” she asked.
Madam Koomson stressed that the number of alleged victims makes the matter particularly serious.
“If it was one student, we would have treated it lightly, but 19?” she said.
She further raised concerns about the risk of interference should the headmaster win the position.
“If he gets this position, what is the guarantee that he won’t interfere with the investigations? Because it was because he had a certain power that this happened,” she added.
The NPP Women’s Organiser called on the Vice President and the Gender Minister to take a firm stance on the matter.
She maintained that the best course of action is for the headmaster to step aside until the investigations are concluded.
“It is better for him to step aside for investigations to be completed, and if he is cleared or exonerated, fair enough,” she stated.
