Former Maria Actress Wanjiku Stephens Announces Nairobi Woman Representative Bid in 2027

Former *Maria* television series actress Vanessa Hausa, popularly known as Wanjiku Stephens, has revealed her intention to venture into politics ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The actress, whose real name is Janet Kiama, has announced plans to contest for the Nairobi County Woman Representative seat, marking a new chapter in her public life.

Wanjiku shared the announcement through her Instagram account on Friday, October 20, 2026, where she posted a campaign-style poster outlining her vision for women in Nairobi.

According to the message on the poster, the former actress intends to champion women’s empowerment while ensuring that their voices are heard and their concerns addressed within the community.

Her proposed agenda focuses on creating opportunities for women and promoting their participation in matters affecting society.

However, despite expressing interest in the Nairobi Woman Representative position, Wanjiku has yet to settle on the political party she intends to use in pursuing her ambitions.

Interestingly, she turned to her Instagram followers for suggestions, asking them to recommend the party she should join ahead of the elections.

“Nisimame na chama gani guys?” she asked in the caption accompanying her poster.

Others welcomed her decision to enter politics, noting that her experience in entertainment and public engagement could introduce her to a different audience.

Wanjiku Stephens became widely recognised through her appearance in the popular Kenyan television drama *Maria*, where she established herself as a familiar face among local television viewers.

Her latest announcement now places her among personalities seeking elective positions as political preparations for the 2027 General Election gather momentum.

However, her preferred political party and the next steps in her campaign remain to be announced.
