Enchi-Elubo road: ‘Show up with your board by Friday or risk termination’ – Agbodza tells contractor

Roads and Highways Minister Governs Kwame Agbodza has issued a final ultimatum to Top International Construction, demanding that the company’s full Board of Directors appear before the Ministry by Friday, September 18, or risk losing its contract for the 71.25-kilometre Enchi–Elubo Road.

The Minister says the contractor has made little meaningful progress on the Western North Region project despite spending more than 10 years on site and receiving repeated warnings and summons from the Ministry.

Mr Agbodza gave the directive during an inspection of the road, where he expressed frustration over what he described as the contractor’s slow pace of work and apparent lack of commitment to completing the project.

According to him, the Ministry has given Top International Construction several opportunities to improve its performance, but those opportunities have not produced the desired results.

He said the September 18 meeting would therefore serve as the company’s final opportunity to account for its performance and demonstrate its readiness to return to serious work on the project.

The Minister was particularly critical of the absence of the company’s owner, whom he said had repeatedly failed to appear despite the concerns surrounding the project.

“The owner of the company himself never turned up. He is always in Nigeria. He probably has better things to do than to come and do this work. He has taken our 82 million. Indeed, we drove from Enchi, and you can see that the road is slightly better maintained than what it is.

“I am very disappointed in Top International Company. They did not take our instructions to come to the site and work seriously the way we thought they should. Top International basically doesn’t intend to do the work because they think they have our 82 million.

“Wherever the owner of the company and the directors are, Friday at 7 o’clock, or we terminate the job without any further discussion,” he stated.

The Enchi–Elubo Road is an important route linking communities in the Western North Region to Elubo and the wider western corridor.

The Minister’s directive means Top International Construction now faces a firm deadline to account for its performance and convince the Ministry that it is prepared to complete the long-delayed project.
