A man arrested after police allegedly found him with 46 military uniforms has accused prosecutors of using intimidation and scare tactics to oppose his release on bail.
Sudi Adack Sulaimana made the accusation on Wednesday while representing himself during a bail hearing at the Blantyre Chief Resident Magistrate’s Court.
He said the State had claimed that he could cause unrest if released, but had not provided evidence to support the allegation.
“The State is using adjectives and adverbs to intimidate and scare the court,” Sulaimana told the court.
But State prosecutor for the South West Region, Charles Panyani, argued against bail, saying Sulaimana could interfere with civilian witnesses if released.
The court has set 18 September for a ruling on the bail application and continuation of the trial.
Sulaimana was arrested in July and faces 21 charges.
Police allege that they found him with 46 military uniforms, military tactical books, four police uniforms, three hand grenades, two toy guns and Magistrate’s and High Court stamps.
He denies the charges.
