Independence: Don’t Lose Hope, Our Country On Right Path, Tinubu Assures Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu, has urged Nigerians not to lose hope in the country, assuring that the country is on the right path toward recovery, peace and sustainable development.

Tinubu made the call while speaking through the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, who represented him at a special prayer session to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary at the National Mosque in Abuja on Friday.

Addressing journalists after the prayer session, Abbas conveyed the President’s message of hope to Nigerians, acknowledging the challenges that had confronted the country since independence, while stressing that the nation had also recorded significant achievements.

He said Nigeria’s 66 years of nationhood should be viewed as a period of growth and maturity, despite the challenges, setbacks and missed opportunities experienced over the years.

“Any person of 66 years cannot be called a child anymore. Nigeria has become mature, even though when we reflect on the journey from independence to date, Nigeria was bedevilled with a lot of issues in the past, and opportunities as well.

“We thank Almighty God for granting us life and peace for us to witness this very historic event today.

“I want to categorically make it clear that Nigeria is on the right path. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Nigeria has finished making sacrifices for this country to be great again,” he said.

Abbas said the president’s message was particularly centred on the need for Nigerians to remain hopeful and committed to the country’s progress, assuring that the challenges confronting the nation could be overcome through sustained efforts and collective commitment.

“My message to the country on behalf of Mr President, the Senate President and all members of the National Assembly, is that people should not lose hope.

“Peace is coming back to this country, development is coming back to this country. Things will get better as we progress in this democracy,” he said.

The Speaker said the country’s democratic journey had provided a platform for Nigerians to address longstanding challenges and build stronger institutions capable of delivering sustainable development.

He urged citizens to remain optimistic about the future, saying the return of peace and development would require patience, unity and continued commitment to democratic governance.

Abbas also called on Nigerians to pay close attention to the policies and programmes of the Tinubu administration, saying the government was making efforts to address challenges that had accumulated over the years.

According to him, the administration’s ongoing programmes and reforms require time and sustained commitment to deliver the desired results, urging Nigerians to give the government the necessary support to consolidate the gains and complete ongoing initiatives.

He said the National Assembly would continue to support measures aimed at strengthening democracy, promoting economic development, improving security and enhancing the welfare of Nigerians.

The Speaker also called for greater unity among Nigerians, stressing that the responsibility for building a better country was not solely that of government but a collective task requiring the participation and commitment of citizens.

He urged Nigerians to use the 66th Independence Anniversary to reflect on the country’s journey, acknowledge the progress made, learn from past challenges and renew their commitment to a peaceful, prosperous and united Nigeria.

The special prayer session was attended by dignitaries and Muslim faithful who offered prayers for the peace, stability and continued development of Nigeria.
