The National Assembly is set for a busy sitting when it resumes on Tuesday, with lawmakers expected to resume debate on several key bills and controversial amendments to the Petroleum (Exploration and Production) Act.
The sitting, scheduled to start at 14h30, will see members of parliament (MPs) continue the second-reading debate on six pieces of legislation.
Among them is the land bill, which is expected to attract significant attention given the ongoing national debate over land ownership and access.
“MPs will also resume debate on the petroleum (exploration and production) amendment bill, alongside the regional councils amendment bill, public enterprises governance amendment bill, income tax amendment bill and the accountants and auditors regulatory authority bill,” reads the agenda notice issued on Friday by parliament spokesperson Sacky Kadhikwa.
The petroleum bill has previously drawn scrutiny over proposed changes to the administration and oversight of the petroleum sector.
Beyond the legislation, Kadhikwa says MPs are also expected to consider several reports and debate a number of motions tabled before the National Assembly.
The sitting comes as parliament continues to deal with legislation aimed at strengthening governance, economic regulation and the management of public resources.
