Nuba residents benefit from extended free NHIS registration exercise

Residents of Nuba in the Jomoro Municipality of the Western Region have benefited from an extended free National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration and renewal exercise.

The initiative, organised by the Assembly Member for the Nuba Electoral Area, Emmanuel Kwasie Amihere, popularly known as Ghanaman, with support from the Jomoro Member of Parliament, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, was aimed at helping more residents access healthcare services.

The exercise, which was initially planned for one day, was extended to two days during its second phase to accommodate more residents seeking to register, renew their NHIS membership or replace lost and damaged cards.

The first phase attracted 170 beneficiaries, comprising 75 new registrations, 80 membership renewals and 15 card replacements.

Participation increased during the second phase, with 133 residents registering for the first time, 70 renewing their memberships and 50 others replacing their cards.

The Assembly Member expressed appreciation to the Jomoro MP and Deputy Minister of Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, as well as the Municipal Chief Executive, Benedict Boadi, for supporting the initiative.

Mr Amihere said the assistance from the two leaders made it possible to extend the exercise and provide more residents with access to the NHIS services.

He said the intervention had brought relief to residents, particularly those who might otherwise have faced difficulties travelling or paying for registration and renewal services.

Mr Amihere commended the Jomoro MP and the MCE for their commitment to improving the welfare of residents and called for similar initiatives to be extended to the community.

He also urged beneficiaries to make effective use of their NHIS membership by seeking medical attention promptly whenever the need arises.

The Assembly Member reaffirmed his commitment to collaborating with stakeholders to attract more development-oriented initiatives to the Nuba Electoral Area.
