Egypt’s government says it has no intention to increase fuel prices

Egypt’s government has denied any intention to implement electricity load-shedding or to pass the burden of rising oil prices onto citizens, clarifying that no such decisions have been made.

In a phone interview with the “Modern MTI” television channel on Friday evening, Cabinet spokesperson Mohamed Adel emphasized the importance of verifying the accuracy of information circulating regarding the energy sector.

Energy prices are a significant issue for both citizens and investors, Adel said, given their direct impact on economic activities and production costs.

He emphasized the importance of referring to full statements and official sources, rather than relying on fragmented clips that could lead to a misunderstanding of the government’s positions—particularly regarding the energy sector.

Adel noted that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has stressed the need to confront rumors and counter misinformation—a point also underscored by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly—as part of the state’s commitment to clarifying the facts for its citizens.

The government is managing the issue of energy conservation in light of current developments and challenges, Adel assured, while highlighting the importance of verifying information before sharing it—especially given that this issue directly impacts citizens’ daily lives, as well as activities within the investment and industrial sectors.
