Sebastian Makalek has left KCB Rugby after two years with the club, bringing his time with the Kenya Cup and National Sevens Circuit side to an end.
Makalek, who served as the club’s Head of Athletic Performance and Strength and Conditioning Coach, is yet to announce his next move.
During his time at KCB Rugby, Makalek worked in different capacities, initially joining the technical set-up as an assistant before taking up the role of Head of Athletic Performance and Strength and Conditioning.
He was part of the technical team that guided KCB Rugby to the 2025 National Sevens Circuit title. He also contributed to the club’s 15s campaign, with the side finishing as runners-up after losing to Kabras in the 2025/26 season.
Makalek brings vast experience in talent identification, player development and strength and conditioning. He has particularly been recognised for his role in identifying and nurturing promising young players, including talent from the Western Kenya region.
Before his move into the KCB Rugby set-up, he built an impressive coaching and development background in school, university and regional rugby.

A former MMUST RFC captain, he also had a successful stint with Vihiga High School, where he helped the school achieve a historic milestone by reaching the East African rugby stage.
He later moved to Maseno School, where he played a role in returning the school to the national rugby spotlight. During his time in the region, he also served as a Nyanza Regional Development Officer, contributing to rugby development and talent pathways.
His coaching journey also included success in university rugby, where he guided the Maseno Women’s rugby side to victory at the 2022 Varsity National Games held in Meru.
A teacher by profession, Makalek holds several rugby and performance coaching qualifications, including: Level 2 Strength and Conditioning Coach, Level 2 Rugby Sevens Coaching and Level 1 Rugby 15s Coaching.
