2027 Toyota Corolla Cross: The just-right SUV gets smarter

The 2027 Toyota Corolla Cross continues to carve out its niche as a compact SUV that balances everyday practicality, capability and modern style without going overboard. Now entering its sixth year in Toyota’s lineup, the Corolla Cross offers a choice of gas or hybrid powertrains, flexible seating and cargo space, and available all-wheel drive for drivers who want versatility without stepping into a larger SUV.

For 2027, Toyota streamlines the hybrid range to two grades: SE and XSE. Both feature a fifth-generation Toyota Hybrid Electric Vehicle system, standard Electronic On-Demand AWD and a combined 196 horsepower. Fuel economy is impressive, with both hybrid grades carrying a manufacturer-estimated 42 mpg combined rating.

Gas-powered models remain available in L, LE and XLE grades. Their 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine produces 169 horsepower, with customers able to choose between front-wheel drive and Dynamic Torque Control AWD. Gas models are rated at up to a manufacturer-estimated 31 mpg combined with FWD and 30 mpg combined with AWD.

Inside, the Corolla Cross focuses on usability. Folding 60/40 rear seats help expand cargo capacity, while thoughtfully placed console, center and door storage make everyday errands easier. Depending on grade, technology includes an available 10.5-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen, wireless Qi charging and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard across the lineup, bringing features such as Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist, Road Sign Assist and Automatic High Beams.

The Corolla Cross also offers plenty of visual variety, with seven single-color and four two-tone exterior combinations. Available features include LED lighting, roof rails, alloy wheels and distinctive grille designs separating the gas and hybrid models.

Pricing starts at $25,535 for the Corolla Cross L FWD and $31,415 for the Hybrid SE, excluding dealer processing and handling fees. Both gas and hybrid models can tow up to 1,500 pounds.
