Eastern Region reach MTN Elite U-19 Championship final after beating Brong Ahafo

Defending champions Eastern Region have reached the final of the 2026 MTN Elite U-19 Championship after beating Brong Ahafo Region 4-2 in Wednesday's semi-final at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.The victory keeps Eastern Region's hopes of retaining the title alive after they recovered from a 3-2 defeat on the opening day of the competition.They will face Ashanti Region in Friday's final, with Ashanti reaching the decider after a 2-1 win in the other semi-final.In the matchday, Michael Tetteh Jnr put Eastern Region ahead in the 38th minute as the defending champions took a narrow lead into the break.Brong Ahafo responded strongly after half-time and were rewarded when Osafo Antwi equalised in the 68th minute.The champions regained control nine minutes later when Ransford Sia restored their lead.Sahd Dawud then added a fourth five minutes later to put Eastern Region firmly in command.Seidu Nayilu pulled one back for Brong Ahafo late on, but Eastern Region held on to secure their place in the final.Eastern Region are now one victory away from successfully defending the inaugural title they won last year.Their final against Ashanti Region will take place at the GFA Technical Centre on Friday, September 4.Ashanti will be seeking to win the championship for the first time, while Eastern Region aim to become the first side to retain the crown.Before the final, Brong Ahafo will face Central Region in Thursday's third-place playoff.The MTN Elite U-19 Championship provides a platform for some of Ghana's most promising young footballers to compete, develop and showcase their potential.
