Orlando Pirates Suffer Potential Blow as Key Player Set to Miss Soweto Derby

Orlando Pirates could be without key defender Kamogelo Sebelebele when they face arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the highly anticipated Soweto Derby this weekend.

The Buccaneers are scheduled to take on Amakhosi at FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon in a Betway Premiership clash that promises to attract significant attention from football supporters across South Africa.

Sebelebele’s potential absence would be a concern for Pirates, particularly given the important role he played in the previous meeting between the two rivals.

The speedy wingback was the hero for the Buccaneers in their last Soweto Derby after scoring the equalising goal in a 1-1 draw against Chiefs last season. His contribution helped Pirates avoid defeat in a fixture where both teams were eager to claim bragging rights.

His pace and attacking qualities have made him an influential option, especially when Pirates look to create opportunities from the wide areas. Losing a player capable of contributing defensively and going forward could force the technical team to consider alternative options for the derby.

However, Sebelebele’s reported absence should be treated as a potential setback rather than a confirmed final decision unless the club provides an official update on his availability.

For Pirates, the challenge will be to prepare effectively for one of the biggest fixtures on the domestic football calendar, regardless of which players are available.

The Soweto Derby carries enormous significance for both clubs, with supporters expecting their teams to deliver a strong performance against their fiercest rivals. Beyond the points at stake, the encounter offers an opportunity to claim local bragging rights.

Chiefs will also be looking to make the most of playing in front of their supporters at FNB Stadium, while Pirates will aim to produce a performance capable of securing a positive result.

All eyes will now be on the latest team news ahead of Saturday’s showdown, with Sebelebele’s availability likely to be closely monitored by the Buccaneers’ supporters.
