Richie had already addressed his health during the concert. According to The St. Louis American, he told the audience that he had experienced unusual symptoms during the tour and had recently returned to his doctor. He said the doctor determined that dehydration was behind his ill health.
"Some things have been happening on this tour that kind of shook me up a little bit, because I couldn't figure out what the hell was going on. I went back to the doctor, and he said, 'You are suffering from dehydration,'" he said. The singer also joked about drinking electrolytes during his performance, saying, "I'm telling you... This stuff is nasty, but it works."
Lionel Richie's health issues
For the uninitiated, Richie is on his '
Sing A Song All Night Long Tour.' Also, this is the second health-related incident for the singer during his current tour.
In June, he was hospitalized after feeling 'dizzy' and 'strange' while performing in St. Paul, Minnesota. The performance was cut short, and he was taken for treatment in an ambulance. He later reassured fans that he was doing well and thanked them for their love and support. "Thank you for every message, every kind word, and for all your love. I'm doing well, and I'm grateful for all of you," he wrote on Instagram.
Fans wish for his speedy recovery
One wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), "Glad it's a minor issue. I wish him safe recovery." Another fan commented, "Sir. Lionel Richie right now is not the time. We have been through so much with Hayden Panettiere, Dolly Parton, and Tim Curry passing. We are expecting a full recovery." "Get well soon," wrote a fan, while another one commented, "Wishing Lionel Richie a full and speedy recovery. At 77, his health has to come before the stage hoping he's back home and feeling stronger soon."
Richie is currently set to perform on September 26 in San Francisco. As of now, his final performance will take place on December 19, 2026, in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
