Nation mourns Home Affairs Minister Princess Lindiwe

MBABANE — The nation is mourning the death of Her Royal Highness Princess Lindiwe, Minister of Home Affairs, who died yesterday following a short illness while receiving medical care.

Her death comes at a time when the nation is already mourning the demise of Chief Justice Bheki Maphalala, who died recently after a short illness while receiving medical treatment in South Africa.

The passing of Princess Lindiwe has left the Royal Family, Cabinet, the Church, her colleagues and those who knew and served alongside her mourning the loss of a public servant who had served the Kingdom as Minister of Home Affairs since 2018.

Prime Minister Russell Dlamini announced the death in a Government statement issued yesterday, conveying condolences on behalf of His Majesty’s Government to His Majesty the King, Her Majesty the Queen Mother, the Royal Family, Princess Lindiwe’s family and relatives, her colleagues and all those who knew her.

Dlamini said Government shared in their grief and prayed that they would be granted strength and comfort during the difficult time.

Princess Lindiwe served as Minister of Home Affairs from 2018 until her death.

In the statement, Government described her as having served the Crown and the Kingdom with dignity, devotion and a strong sense of duty.

It said she discharged the responsibilities of her high office with distinction, integrity and compassion.

Government said Princess Lindiwe remained steadfast in her service to the nation and carried out her duties with commitment to the welfare of the people of Eswatini.

‘Woman of faith’

As the Kingdom mourns her death, Government also paid tribute to Princess Lindiwe’s Christian faith and spiritual leadership.

She was affectionately known as Umkhokheli and was described as a woman of deep Christian faith and spiritual conviction.

According to Government, she provided spiritual leadership, guidance and encouragement to many people, bearing witness to her faith through both word and service.

Her kindness, humility and strength of character were also highlighted in the statement.

Government said these qualities touched the lives of those around her and that her example would remain a source of comfort and inspiration to those mourning her passing.

“The Kingdom has lost a person of humility and dignity, the Cabinet a valued and respected colleague, the Church a spiritual leader, and the Nation a devoted and faithful servant,” said Dlamini.

Government said Princess Lindiwe’s contribution to the life of the Kingdom would be remembered with gratitude and that her memory would remain cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Dlamini also extended condolences to all those affected by her death and prayed for strength and comfort during the mourning period.

He concluded by saying: “May the soul of Her Royal Highness Princess Lindiwe rest in eternal peace.”
