Andy Lee and Rebecca Harding’s star-studded New York wedding reception was a night of cocktails, dancing and celebrity guests – but it was an unexpected reunion between two longtime friends that caught the attention of eagle-eyed fans.
Zoë Foster Blake and former Elle Australia editor-in-chief Justine Cullen appeared to put rumours that they were drifting apart to rest after being spotted cuddling up in Instagram photos shared by guests at the couple’s nuptials last Tuesday.
The cosy display comes after Zoë was notably absent from Justine’s 50th birthday getaway to New Zealand earlier this year.
Zoë was thick as thieves with Cullen back in the day, but her absence from the Kiwi jaunt inevitably fuelled chatter among media insiders that the magazine mates may be moving in different directions.
The absence of Zoë was particularly surprising given the pair’s famously close bond, which has spanned more than a decade.
Cullen and Zoë became close during the former’s tenure at Elle Australia, where the Go-To founder was a frequent contributor and cover star.
The pair also teamed up to launch Elle Australia’s debut podcast and were regular fixtures on the fashion and media circuit, with their friendship extending well beyond the office.
Back in 2015, Zoë famously travelled to Los Angeles with Cullen and McCahon for a girls’ getaway that was well documented on Instagram.
At the time, Zoë shared a snap of the trio posing in their hotel room with champagne, joking: ‘I was forbidden from tagging this #momsgonewild. So I definitely won’t hashtag it #momsgonewild.’
Zoë was also front and centre at Cullen’s 40th birthday celebrations in 2016, attending the then-Elle editor’s lavish 1920s-themed costume party alongside her husband, Hamish Blake.
However, there may be a far more innocent explanation for Zoë’s absence from the New Zealand getaway.
Cullen attended Zoë’s ‘anything but clothes’-themed birthday party last December, suggesting the pair’s friendship may have remained intact and that the Go-To founder simply could not make the trip across the ditch.
Whatever the reason for her absence, the pair appeared to be on excellent terms as they joined a glittering guest list to celebrate Andy and Rebecca tying the knot in the Big Apple.
The festivities continued long into the night, with photos offering a glimpse inside the lavish reception at a swanky New York function venue overlooking the city.
Guests sipped cocktails and danced as they celebrated the newlyweds, before sitting down for a decadent feast.
The bride and groom’s table settings featured simple white floral displays with greenery, as well as custom-printed napkins with the message: ‘But if you’ve got a husband, I was just using you to get to him. I bet he is handsome.’
The hilarious detail was a tribute to the hand-written napkin note Andy wrote to Rebecca when they met at a cafe where she was working 12 years ago.
Later, guests headed to the rooftop to enjoy the sunset over the New York skyline.
Among those on the guest list was Hollywood star Hugh Jackman, Andy’s best friend Hamish Blake, Nova radio host Lauren Phillips and her aviation tycoon fiancé Paul O’Brien, publicist Lucy Nettlefold, fashion stylist Elliot Garnaut and entrepreneur Michelle Battersby.
