The Katsina State Police Command has foiled a planned attack by suspected armed bandits on Dansarai and Kamfani villages in Malumfashi Local Government Area of the state.
The command also said one of the suspected bandits was neutralised during a gun duel with security operatives.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the incident occurred on August 25, 2026, at about 6pm.
The statement said the Malumfashi Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call that suspected armed bandits riding motorcycles had been sighted heading towards Dansarai and Kamfani villages.
It said upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) immediately mobilised a team of police operatives, alongside personnel of the Vigilance and Civilian Response Unit (VCRU), to intercept the suspected attackers.
“The team strategically blocked the anticipated routes of the hoodlums, intercepted them, and engaged them in a gun duel,” the statement said.
It added that the security operatives, relying on superior firepower and tactical manoeuvring, successfully repelled the attackers, forcing them to flee the area in disarray.
The statement further disclosed that during a subsequent search of the area, the body of one of the suspected armed bandits was recovered. The command said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the group who escaped during the encounter.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Ali Umar Fage, commended the officers and other security personnel involved in the operation for what he described as their bravery, professionalism and commitment to protecting residents.
He reaffirmed the command’s determination to sustain operations against banditry and other criminal activities, while ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.
The police commissioner also urged members of the public to continue providing the command with timely and credible information on suspicious movements and activities to enable security agencies to respond promptly to threats.
