Image: RazerWhen it comes to Razer’s headsets, you may be more familiar with the Kraken, a product that has a storied place in Razer’s history, and an aggressive ‘gamer’ look. However, that design language doesn’t resonate with everything, and thus, the Barracuda line is intended to appeal to the crowd who want a more minimalist look.
Now, four years from the official launch of its Barracuda lineup, and five years from the release of the original Barracuda X in 2021, Razer has seen fit to announce the second generation of its do-everything headset lineup with the new Barracuda V2 Pro.
The Barracuda V2 Pro features 40mm TriForce Bio-Cellulose drivers.
The headset uses TriForce Bio-Cellulose 40mm drivers, which at first glance might be a strange decision considering the last-generation Barracuda Pro features 50mm drivers.
However, it allowed Razer to save some weight on the new headset – it weighs 285g, less than the 340g weight of the original Barracuda Pro. Razer also noted that, despite the smaller drivers, the Barracuda V2 Pro has an extended bass response down to 12Hz. In theory, this should provide less roll-off and distortion for sub-bass frequencies that people can actually hear.
The Barracuda V2 Pro also features both a detachable boom mic for when you’re at your desktop, alongside dual beamforming microphones built directly into the headset for settings where a boom mic might be less appropriate – taking calls outside, for instance.
The Barracuda V2 Pro uses both a detatchable boom mic, and built-in beamforming mics for a less conspicuous look when taking calls.
Speaking of which, the Barracuda V2 Pro also features the same Hybrid ANC as its predecessor, with internal- and external-facing microphones for better noise detection. The headset also features THX Spatial Audio with 7.1.4 virtual surround sound.
The Barracuda V2 Pro connects via 2.4GHz HyperSpeed Wireless, Bluetooth LE and USB. It also features a SmartSwitch that flips between 2.4GHz and Bluetooth instantly if, for instance, you want to switch between your mobile and PC setups.
Finally, Razer stated that the Barracuda V2 Pro also sports up to 70 hours of battery life on 2.4GHz with ANC off, and up to 50 hours on 2.4GHz with ANC on.
The Razer Barracuda V2 Pro is available now on Razer’s website, RazerStores and select retailers, and is going for S$319.
