Lydia Jazmine turns Cricket Oval into a night of musical memories and surprises

Lugogo Cricket Oval came alive last Friday as thousands of music lovers gathered for Lydia Jazmine’s long-awaited ‘The One and Only’ concert, a night that brought together some of Uganda’s biggest names in music and a crowd eager to celebrate one of the country’s leading female artists.

From the moment fans began arriving, the atmosphere was unmistakably festive. The venue filled with stylish entrances, photo moments, fireworks and performances, setting the stage for a night that would have its share of unexpected moments.

One of them came when Lydia was performing a song with Geosteady and the music suddenly cut off. For a brief moment, the interruption left both the performers and the audience wondering what had happened. But the silence did not last long.

Someone in the crowd shouted, “Lydia… we wanna partee!” and the chant quickly spread through the venue.

Instead of killing the mood, the technical hitch became part of the night’s entertainment. The crowd picked up the energy, turning the unexpected pause into another memorable moment before the show continued.

By about 3pm, fans were already making their way into Lugogo Cricket Oval. Many stopped at the V&A backdrop for photographs and 360-degree videos before heading into the venue as anticipation continued to build.

The entertainment line-up lived up to the occasion, with performances from artists including Sheebah Karungi, Lillian Mbabazi, Fefe Bussi, Ray G and Anknown, while DJs kept the crowd entertained between the live acts.

But beyond the performances, the concert also became a meeting point for friends, music lovers and people looking to simply enjoy a night out. When Lydia eventually took centre stage, the response from the audience made it clear that they had been waiting for this moment.

She performed some of her popular songs, including ‘Cherie’, ‘Same Way’, ‘Masuuka’ and ‘You and Me’, with fans singing along almost from the first line.

At different points during the performance, the crowd became a chorus of its own, with thousands of fans singing back lyrics to Lydia. It was a powerful reminder of how deeply her music has connected with Ugandan audiences over the years.
