Kadoma Double Murder: Ex-Prison Officer Gets 50 Years For Killing Wife And Pregnant Daughter
An ex-prison officer who killed his wife and their eight-month pregnant daughter after a domestic violence dispute has been sentenced to 50 years in prison.
According to H-Metro, Albert Namurokosi was handed two separate 25-year sentences by Chinhoyi High Court judge Justice Manyangadze after being convicted of murdering 45-year-old Cynthia Namukorosi and her 23-year-old daughter, Takudzwa Namukorosi.
Murder followed domestic violence arrest
The court heard that tensions in Albert and Cynthia’s marriage had escalated over several years before the fatal attack.
According to the State, represented by Review Nikisi, Cynthia had reported Albert for domestic violence on May 2, resulting in his arrest and detention overnight at Ingezi Police Base in Kadoma.
After his arrest, Cynthia left their home and went to stay with Takudzwa, who lived with her young family at House No. 929 in Victory Park.
The court heard that Albert was angered by his wife’s decision to report him.
Albert follows wife to daughter’s home
After being released from custody, Albert went to his daughter’s house on May 3.
At around 1:30pm, he allegedly broke into the property and attacked Takudzwa with a knife.
The pregnant 23-year-old managed to escape through the kitchen door, but Albert followed her outside and stabbed her again in the shoulder.
A neighbour, Tracy Dangaiso, reportedly attempted to intervene but was warned by Albert not to get involved.
Wife killed while confronting him
Cynthia then confronted Albert over the attack on their daughter.
The court heard that Albert stabbed her once in the neck, killing her at the scene.
Takudzwa also died from her injuries, with her body later found behind the house.
Albert fled after the attack before eventually handing himself over to police, leading to his arrest and prosecution for the two murders.
Post-mortem reveals daughter’s injuries
A post-mortem examination conducted on May 8 found that Takudzwa had died from haemothorax, a lung laceration and a stab wound to the back.
The court was told that she was eight months pregnant at the time of her death.
Albert speaks about troubled marriage
During the proceedings, Albert said his marriage had been troubled for about five years.
He attributed the problems to several issues, including having fathered a child outside the marriage and what he described as infidelity involving his late wife.
He also acknowledged that the domestic violence case on May 2 had resulted in him spending the night in police custody.
The following day, he carried out the attacks that claimed the lives of his wife and pregnant daughter.
Justice Manyangadze subsequently sentenced him to 25 years for each murder, giving him an effective total of 50 years in prison.
