<div class="text-long"><p><em><span>* Editor's note: Please be aware the video attached above contains graphic images.</span></em></p><p><span>VOSLOORUS - </span>Seventeen learners at Erasmus Monareng High School allege they were assaulted by private security personnel at their school.</p><p>This follows the Gauteng Department of Education’s search and seizure operations at various schools in the province. </p><p>The school decided to conduct its own operations and enforce discipline, and invited private security to assist.</p><blockquote><p><strong>READ: </strong><a href="https://www.enca.com/news/used-cooking-oil-concoction-sparks-school-health-scare-sebokeng"><span><strong>Used cooking oil concoction sparks school health scare in Sebokeng</strong></span></a></p></blockquote><p>Speaking to eNCA, some of the assaulted learners said they were not even late. </p><p>Others said that when they asked why they were being punished, they did not get answers and were instead beaten.</p><p>The Education Department says it is aware of the assault and has engaged the school management. </p><p>Psycho-social support has been sent to the school for the learners who were allegedly assaulted by private security.</p><p>A meeting with MEC Lebogang Maile will be held at the school to address the incident.<br> </p></div>
