Malawi has vaccinated more than 7.3 million children under the age of 10 in the fourth round of the nOPV2 polio vaccination campaign, exceeding the national target.
The Ministry of Health says 7,368,423 children received the vaccine during the nationwide campaign held from 11 to 14 August 2026.
According to a statement signed by the ministry’s Principal Secretary, Dan Namalika, the figure represents 104 percent coverage against a target of 7,070,131 children.
The ministry has commended health workers, volunteers, traditional and religious leaders, parents and partners for supporting the campaign.
It said their efforts helped ensure that children, including those in hard-to-reach areas, were reached.
The ministry has, however, urged parents, caregivers and communities to continue supporting routine immunisation and future vaccination campaigns to strengthen efforts to prevent and control polio in Malawi.
