Bekwai Police Public Relations Officer ASP Lloyd Baidoo has rejected reports that the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Zakaria Abdulai, has been arrested and is currently in custody.
Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, told Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) that Mr. Abdulai has been arrested as police investigate allegations of sexual misconduct involving female students.
He said the case had been transferred from the Ashanti Regional Police Command to Police Headquarters in Accra for further investigation.
However, speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, ASP Baidoo clarified the status of the case, which stems from a complaint filed by a student on August 4.
“We effected the arrest when a student filed a complaint on August 4. He was granted bail,” Baidoo stated. “The headmaster is home, and to the best of my knowledge, he has not been arrested. Nothing of that sort has happened.”
He explained that investigators have completed their work and forwarded the docket to the Attorney General for advice.
“We have investigated the matter and submitted the docket to the Attorney General for advice for us to follow up. So we are waiting for the Attorney General’s instruction and what further investigation will reveal for us to prosecute or not,” the police spokesman said.
Baidoo added that any further action, including a possible re-arrest or arraignment, would only follow clear directives from the Attorney General.
“Until we get advice from the AG and further instruction to arrest or arraign him in court, we will effect that instruction,” he noted.
Meanwhile, Mr. Abdulai, who maintains he is innocent, has vowed to pursue all lawful avenues to clear his name.
