Desperate Chiefs Coach da Cruz Finally Admits The Horrible Truth About Pirates

In the wake of Amakhosi’s 2-1 loss to Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby, Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando da Cruz has taken stock of the team’s differences with the visiting Pirates and identified experience and consistency as two key areas where the visitors dominate.

Pirates defeated their Soweto rivals in the much-anticipated Betway Premiership match that took place at FNB Stadium on Saturday, October 31, 2026.

Da Cruz is optimistic about Kaizer Chiefs’ future despite the loss; however, he knows his squad still has a ways to go before they can compete with the best.

“The difference between Pirates and us, they have more experienced players and they have more consistency because of that,” the French coach said, expressing his thoughts on the disparity between the two firms.

His remarks show how difficult it is for Amakhosi to regain their former glory and compete with the best teams in the country.

Da Cruz claims that the current Pirates roster is stronger because of the players’ extensive experience playing in both domestic and international competitions.

That background can be invaluable in high-stakes competitions like the Soweto Derby, where each participant’s actions and demeanour can make or break the outcome.

On Saturday, the Pirates showed that they can come back from setbacks and seize opportunities by winning the match.

Chiefs’ inability to sustain their performance levels for the duration of a match was further cast into doubt by the loss.

Amakhosi looked good in the first half, but they couldn’t keep up their pressure in the second.

Kaizer Chiefs have really struggled with consistency as of late, failing to convert several promising performances into wins in league matches.

Experience, in Da Cruz’s view, is a cumulative thing, and his younger players need to keep learning from tough games.

The coach has also admitted that his team has been hit hard by injuries, which has limited his options as he works to build a more stable squad.

The Chiefs must improve their clinical play in front of goal and their handling of tough situations if they are to overcome the challenge, which goes beyond personnel.

It cost them dearly because they missed opportunities to score against the Pirates.

As the season continues, Chiefs must address important questions raised by their loss in the Soweto Derby.

The advantages of consistency are being shown by the Pirates, but Amakhosi need to find a way to catch up and convert their promising performances into wins.

Da Cruz seems to have realised the magnitude of the problem confronting his squad, based on his admission.

Chiefs fans care more about actual results than empty rhetoric when it comes to the team’s performance.

Amakhosi still have time to respond with a number of matches remaining. Their hopes for the season hinge on whether they can get the consistency and experience that Da Cruz thinks they’re missing.
