DODOMA: VICE-President-designate Deogratius Ndejembi has pledged to discharge his responsibilities with integrity and humility, saying he will effectively assist President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan in serving all Tanzanians regardless of their political affiliations.
Mr Ndejembi (43) made the pledge in his acceptance speech before the National Assembly in Dodoma yesterday, shortly after MPs unanimously endorsed him to the post of Vice-President.
He thanked President Samia for entrusting him with the position, describing the appointment as a major responsibility whose success would be measured not by his age but by his loyalty, integrity and performance.
“The magnitude of this responsibility will not be measured by my youth. It will be measured by my loyalty to the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, my integrity towards Tanzanians and how I execute every responsibility entrusted to me by the President,” he said.
Mr Ndejembi said his immediate responsibility would be to support President Samia in delivering development and services to all citizens while serving as a bridge between the government and the people. He stressed that his new position was not intended to serve members of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) alone, but all Tanzanians.
“I will not be the VicePresident of CCM members alone. I will serve as the VicePresident of all Tanzanians, regardless of their political affiliations, just as President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan is the President of all Tanzanians,” he said.
Mr Ndejembi said he would strive to become an effective link between the President and citizens and carry out his responsibilities in accordance with her directives and expectations. He expressed gratitude to President Samia for the confidence she had shown in him throughout his public service career, having entrusted him with several senior government positions.
Mr Ndejembi previously served as Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Labour, Youth, Employment and Persons with Disabilities, Minister for Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development and later Minister for Energy. He also thanked CCM’s National Executive Committee for endorsing his nomination, saying the decision reflected the party’s commitment to nurturing and empowering young leaders.
“The trust shown by the CCM National Executive Committee is great, but it is not trust in Deo Ndejembi alone. It demonstrates how CCM nurtures young people, believes in them and prepares them to take on different responsibilities in the nation,” he said.
Mr Ndejembi said he grew through various leadership positions within CCM before joining government, serving as a District Commissioner, Member of Parliament, Deputy Minister and Minister. Turning to Parliament, he thanked Speaker Mr Mussa Azzan Zungu, parliamentary committee chairpersons and fellow MPs for their cooperation.

He described the unanimous endorsement as a demonstration of MPs’ confidence in President Samia’s decision and in his ability to discharge the responsibilities ahead. Mr Ndejembi also thanked the Prime Minister, Cabinet ministers, deputy ministers and the Attorney General for their guidance and cooperation during his public service career. He singled out Deputy Minister for Energy, Ms Salome Makamba, for her support during his tenure at the Ministry of Energy.
The Vice-President-designate also thanked Chamwino residents for electing and supporting him as their Member of Parliament, pledging to remain connected to his constituency.
“I am still a son of Chamwino. For any matter, do not hesitate to contact me at any time and we will continue to work together,” he said. Mr Ndejembi, who was first elected Chamwino MP in 2020, called on MPs and Tanzanians to work together to ensure government-funded development projects translate into tangible services. “Our responsibility is to supervise and ensure that those services reach the people,” he said.
Mr Ndejembi replaces outgoing Vice-President Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi, who resigned on August 25 this year.
