NAIROBI,Kenya Oct 31 – Detectives have arrested two more suspects in connection with the murder of a 65-year-old woman in Meru County, with investigators linking the killing to a longstanding family land dispute.
The suspects, identified as Godwin Kimathi, the deceased’s brother, and Beth Muthomi, the sister of the first suspect and sister-in-law to the deceased, are accused of masterminding the killing of Evelyne Mukiri Mbaabu.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), investigations established that the two allegedly conspired to eliminate Mbaabu before hiring Solomon Kathurima Kairemia to execute the murder.
The latest arrests bring the number of suspects apprehended in connection with the killing to three, following Kairemia’s arrest on September 22, 2026.
Detectives said further investigations had established that the suspects maintained communication both before and after the murder, pointing to alleged prior planning and coordination.
Mbaabu was killed inside her home in Kithoka Village, Meru County, on August 7, 2026, at approximately 7.20pm.
She was reportedly preparing supper alongside her 13-year-old grandson when the assailants stormed the house and attacked her.
The two latest suspects have since been presented in court, where they were ordered to remain in custody pending mental assessment.
They are expected to take plea on November 4, 2026.
The DCI said investigations were ongoing as detectives pursued additional leads to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killing and identify everyone involved.
