Ghanaian reggae-dancehall musician Stonebwoy has donated GH¢100,000 to the national amputee football team, the Black Challenge, as they prepare for the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup in Mexico.
The award-winning musician made the donation during a courtesy visit to the team at Mensah Sarbah Park at the University of Ghana last Friday.
Stonebwoy, who revealed that he had previously used crutches to walk, said disability should never be a source of ridicule and urged Ghanaians to treat persons with disabilities with dignity and respect.
“Nothing about disability is funny,” he stressed, adding that people who mock persons with disabilities demonstrate ignorance and immaturity.
During the visit, the musician also joined the players for a brief session with the ball, showing his support for the team ahead of the global tournament.
Stonebwoy encouraged the Black Challenge to give their best in Mexico, noting that the challenges they face in life could ultimately become a source of inspiration and blessing to others.
He also called on Ghanaians to rally behind the team in the same way they support the Black Stars, stressing the importance of national backing as the players pursue their World Cup ambitions.
The donation was received by Mrs Farida Iddris, an executive member of the National Paralympic Committee and the Ghana Swimming Association, alongside the team’s captain.
The Black Challenge head to Mexico with an impressive record on the continent, having won three continental titles in 2021, 2023 and 2025.
The team are now targeting global success and will travel to Turkey for their final preparations before moving to San Juan de los Lagos, Mexico, for the tournament.
Ghana have been drawn in the same group as Iraq, Angola and Colombia.
President of the African Paralympic Committee, Samson Deen, has expressed confidence in the team’s ability to perform well at the championship.
