The two-month exercise, which will run throughout October and November 2026, will see research enumerators visiting selected homes in high-, medium- and low-density suburbs across the country.
According to a public notice issued on 21 October, the study is intended to give engineers and grid planners clearer insight into household energy mixes, appliance use and the uptake of domestic solar systems.
The utility said the data will be used to optimise power distribution, improve grid reliability and plan for future energy needs.
The exercise comes as an increasing number of households have turned to rooftop solar, gas and battery storage to supplement grid power, shifting traditional peak-demand hours and altering consumption patterns in urban and rural areas.
ZESA has urged residents to verify the credentials of field staff before allowing them entry or disclosing information. It said all authorised enumerators will carry an official ZESA identity card together with their Zimbabwean national identity document.
The power company said all information gathered during the door-to-door survey will be treated as strictly confidential and used solely for research and infrastructure planning.
“We wish to notify our valued stakeholders that the utility will be conducting an energy survey on domestic customers across the country in the months of October and November 2026,” the notice said.
“ZESA Research Enumerators will be visiting selected households to conduct the Domestic Energy Survey & Load Profiling Study.”
