GRNMA moves to secure release of detained nurse in Ghana Jollof case

The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has begun exploring legal avenues to secure the early release of nurse Salomey Awiti Bafoh, who has been remanded in connection with the Ghana Jollof case.

The Association says it remains in touch with the nurse’s lawyers as they consider all available legal remedies following her latest court appearance.

In a notice issued on Friday, September 18, 2026, the GRNMA said its First Vice President, Samuel Alagkora Akolgo, Esq., led a delegation to the Adenta Circuit Court on Thursday, September 17, to show solidarity with Salomey during the proceedings.

According to the Association, Salomey was subsequently remanded in custody and is expected to reappear before the court on September 28, 2026.

The GRNMA said the remand order was made despite legal arguments presented by her lawyers.

“The leadership of the Association is in touch with her lawyers to explore all legal remedies for her early release,” the notice stated.

The Association has also urged its members to remain calm but resolute as its national leadership works through what it described as a legal hurdle.

“Further communications will be issued as developments unfold,” the GRNMA added.

Salomey Awiti Bafoh, a principal nursing officer, is currently facing legal proceedings in connection with the Ghana Jollof case.

The development comes amid growing public and professional attention to her detention, with calls from various groups for due process to be followed in determining the allegations against her.
