Durban family continues search for Terricia Govender in Nepal

The family of Durban woman Terricia Govender is continuing its search in Nepal nearly two weeks after she was reported missing following destructive flash floods.

Govender, 33, had travelled as part of a pilgrimage group. Her mother, Linda, and a family friend, Sashin, are now in Nepal looking for information about her whereabouts, eNCA reported on Sunday.

Linda Govender told the broadcaster that the family had not received information about what happened to her daughter. She said relatives of other missing people were facing the same uncertainty.

“We cannot sit back and wait. We are praying for a miracle,” she said, explaining that she was prepared to search through affected areas herself.

The family said it had not received assistance from the foundation with which Govender travelled. That account is attributed to her mother and had not been independently answered by the organisation when this report was prepared.

Flash floods caused widespread destruction in Nepal, damaging villages, homes and other buildings. eNCA reported that thousands of people remained unaccounted for after the disaster.

Govender’s family travelled from KwaZulu-Natal as the search continued on the ground. No confirmed information about her location or condition had been released at the time of publication.
