LEADING private medical facility, The Avenues Clinic, has commissioned an upgraded Intensive Care Unit (ICU), High Dependency Unit (HDU) and Coronary Care Unit (CCU) following a US$500 000 investment aimed at boosting critical care services and improving patient outcomes.
The development brings the Harare-based institution’s total expenditure on its ongoing facility-wide recapitalisation and refurbishment programme to approximately US$4 million.
Speaking during a media tour and official opening ceremony in the capital on Monday, The Avenues Clinic managing director Sibusisiwe Ndhlovu said the upgraded facility features state-of-the-art monitoring systems, redesigned bed-head units and additional dialysis points designed to streamline emergency care.
“We are happy to celebrate the opening of the ICU, HDU and CCU unit, which is where the critically ill patients are attended to in this hospital,” Ndhlovu said.
“The major improvement is that we now have more functional points. We do not need to be moving the patient, and it means that we can cater for more patients better, faster and in a more comfortable environment.”
The institution’s financial controller, Oscar Maradzamunda, underscored the hospital’s broader recapitalisation strategy, noting that private healthcare investments play a pivotal role in supporting national healthcare infrastructure.
“For this investment, we spent half a million (dollars) into this critical unit. To date, we have managed to spend about US$4 million into the refurbishment of the entire hospital,” Maradzamunda said.
He added that the private health facility remains committed to collaborating with public health authorities to elevate medical standards across the country.
“We would like to also partner with government. In other words, we are complementing government efforts to make sure that our health sector is up to speed, and we upgrade and modernise our equipment so that we serve everyone, we serve our community and we serve Zimbabwe at large,” he said.
The upgraded units are expected to immediately increase the hospital’s capacity to manage complex cardiac, renal and high-dependency medical cases, reducing the need for locals to seek specialized treatment abroad.
