the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have abolished multiple payments for verification of O’Level results by candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions.
Under the new arrangement, candidates will pay a one-off fee of N4,000 to verify their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, which can thereafter be used by institutions for admission screening and processing.
JAMB and WAEC announced the measure in a joint statement on the newly introduced WASSCE O’Level Result Verification Service.
The examination bodies warned tertiary institutions against demanding additional verification fees from candidates whose results have already been verified through the JAMB platform.
“Candidates are to pay N4,000 only, once, for the verification of their WASSCE O’Level results on the specified platform and not through their desired institutions,” they said.
Under the arrangement, candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions regulated by JAMB will verify their WAEC results once through the board’s verification platform.
WAEC has authorised JAMB to share the verified results with relevant institutions for screening, admission processing and other approved administrative purposes.
“The institutions, therefore, are not expected to demand another payment from candidates for verification of the same WASSCE O’Level results,” the organisations warned.
The measure is expected to provide relief particularly to candidates applying to more than one institution, who previously risked paying separate verification charges to different schools.
JAMB and WAEC said candidates could initiate the verification process from their homes or any internet-enabled location, reducing the need for repeated visits to institutions or JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test centres.
They said the collaboration was designed to reduce the financial and logistical burden on admission seekers while simplifying the process and protecting the integrity of candidates’ academic records.
The organisations urged candidates who have completed verification through the approved platform not to make additional payments to institutions for verification of the same results.
