The First Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Ho Central Constituency in the volta Region, Bismark Akuamoah, says the party is confident of defeating the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2028 general elections.
He has urged the NDC to ensure a peaceful and successful internal election process, insisting that the party must not blame internal divisions for any defeat in the next general elections.
Mr. Akuamoah made the remarks in an interview with Adom News after delivering the NPP’s goodwill message to the NDC in the Volta Region, where delegates are voting to elect constituency and regional executives to steer the party’s affairs ahead of the 2028 elections.
He said the NPP wanted the NDC to conduct a successful election and emerge united, stressing that his party was determined to reclaim power and would not want the opposition to attribute its eventual defeat to internal disagreements.
Mr. Akuamoah expressed confidence that Ghanaians would hold the NDC accountable for what he described as unfulfilled campaign promises made ahead of the 2024 general elections.
He cited promises to increase cocoa producer prices to GH¢6,000, restore automatic placement for teachers, abolish teacher licensure examinations, and provide housing for teachers, arguing that the government had failed to meet those expectations.
According to him, the NPP believes the perceived gap between the NDC’s campaign promises and its performance in government presents an opportunity for the opposition to regain public support.
“The NPP have learned their lessons. We are making the necessary corrections within our ranks. We are closing our ranks, and we are very sure that come 2029, Dr. Bawumia will be sworn in as our president,” he said.
Although the next general elections are scheduled for 2028, Mr. Akuamoah expressed confidence that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia would become president in 2029, following the election.
He also defended the selection of the NPP’s national officers, insisting that the party chose its leaders based on merit and with specific objectives in mind.
Mr. Akuamoah further defended the newly elected first national vice chairman, Mr.Kojo Bamba, arguing that he had served the party in various capacities and questioning the criticism surrounding his role in the party’s leadership.
On the party’s electoral prospects, the Ho Central Constituency First Vice Chairman predicted that the NPP would make significant gains in the 2028 elections, including reclaiming seats currently held by the NDC in the Ho Central Constituency and making inroads in constituencies traditionally considered difficult for the party.
He attributed the anticipated gains to what he described as growing public disappointment with the government and a renewed determination within the NPP to correct its past mistakes.
Mr. Akuamoah, however, called for peaceful political engagement, saying the NPP was not seeking to provoke violence or create confusion during the NDC’s internal elections.
He nevertheless warned that his party was prepared for a fierce electoral contest in 2028, invoking the controversial political expression “all die be die” to underscore what he described as the NPP’s readiness to challenge the NDC at the polls.
Mr. Bismark Akuamoah maintained that the NPP’s objective was to win the next general elections through the ballot box while urging the NDC to ensure that its internal electoral process remained peaceful.
The NDC’s constituency and regional executive elections in the Volta Region form part of efforts to reorganise the party’s structures and prepare its leadership for the 2028 general elections.
