Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Henry Asante Twum says restoring the Black Stars to winning ways will require considerable time and sustained effort.
Speaking to Joy Sports, Asante Twum acknowledged the challenges facing the senior national team, insisting that the association’s leadership was aware of the situation and working to get the team back on track.
He cautioned against expecting an immediate turnaround, stressing that rebuilding the team’s fortunes would require patience and commitment.
“It wouldn’t take a day, wouldn’t take a week; it’ll take a lot more effort and a lot of time to get the team back on track,” he said.
“Where we are at this moment, leadership is aware of the challenges that confront us, and efforts are being made to get the team back on track,” he added.
Asante Twum also acknowledged the criticism that often follows poor results, noting that public reactions to the team’s performances are largely influenced by outcomes on the pitch.
“When you win, you’re hailed, but you don’t expect the people to hail you when the results are poor. That’s what leadership must know and accept,” he said.
His comments come amid mounting pressure on the GFA to address the Black Stars’ struggles and restore public confidence following Ghana’s disappointing start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The four-time African champions lost to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia in their opening two Group C matches, leaving them without a point and bottom of the standings.
Ghana, who are chasing to return to the AFCON having missed out in the last edition in Morocco will now seek to revive their qualification hopes when they face Somalia in a double-header in November.
With an interim technical team in charge, the Black Stars will be under pressure to secure maximum points from the two matches to improve their position in the group and keep their hopes of qualifying for the tournament alive.
