Ghanaian-Italian forward Caleb Ekuban has joined Hellas Verona from Genoa on a free transfer, returning to the city where he was born and signing for the Serie B club at the age of 32.
Ekuban completed the move on 1 September 2026 after five years with Genoa. He has agreed a contract with Hellas Verona running until 30 June 2028, giving the club an experienced centre-forward as they prepare for the new campaign.
Born in Villafranca di Verona, Ekuban began his senior career in Italy with Chievo Verona before spending time on loan at Sudtirol, Lumezzane and Renate. His move back to the area represents a return to the region in which he developed as a player.
The striker joined Genoa from Turkish side Trabzonspor in August 2021 for a fee of 2.6m. He had spent two seasons with Trabzonspor after initially joining the club on loan from Leeds, later making the move permanent in July 2019.
Ekubans career includes 108 Serie A appearances, in which he has scored 10 goals and provided nine assists. He has also played 83 times in Turkeys top flight, scoring 20 goals and registering 12 assists.
During his time with Trabzonspor, Ekuban won the Turkish Cup in the 2019-20 season and the Turkish Super Cup the following campaign. He was also named Player of the Tournament in 2020-21, a season in which he scored one goal in the competition.
His earlier career included a spell with Leeds, for whom he made 20 Championship appearances and scored once. He also played four times in the EFL Cup, scoring one goal and providing one assist.
Ekuban has represented Ghana internationally and holds dual Ghanaian and Italian nationality. He is predominantly a right-footed attacker and will wear the Hellas Verona colours as the clubs latest addition from Genoa.
The move takes Ekuban from a Genoa side competing in Serie A to Hellas Verona in Serie B, with his new contract secured until 30 June 2028.
