Three men have been jailed for 15 years each in separate rape cases heard in Bulawayo, Karoi and Gwanda.
A 25-year-old man from Nkulumane in Bulawayo was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the West Commonage Magistrates’ Court for raping a 16-year-old girl from the same neighbourhood.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said the incident happened on 11 July 2026 at around 6 pm. The girl was walking home after fetching water from a community tap when the man called her to his house.
Once she entered a room, he ordered her to bend and touch her toes and raped her, then told her to leave.
She went home and told her sister what had happened. Her sister took her to the police, and a report was made leading to his arrest and conviction.
In a separate case, the Karoi Regional Magistrates’ Court sentenced a 25-year-old man from Dhadhanzi Farm in Karoi to 15 years in prison for raping a 15-year-old girl.
The court heard that on 25 July 2026 at around 4 pm, the girl was looking for cattle when she met the man. He stopped her under the pretext of asking for directions to a nearby village.
While she was giving directions, he tripped her to the ground, covered her mouth and raped her.
The victim managed to escape and reported the matter to the police, leading to his arrest and conviction.
In the third case, the Gwanda Regional Magistrates’ Court sentenced a 41-year-old man to an effective 15 years for rape, plus an additional six months for robbery, for attacking an 18-year-old girl near Sigaba Village under Chief Nyangazonke.
The court heard that on 13 October 2025, the girl was walking to school when she met the man. He told her he had lost US$20 along the footpath and asked her to help him look for it.
He walked with her for about 100 metres before pulling out a knife and threatening to kill her. He then raped her and robbed her of 100 Rand and a cellphone valued at 900 Rand.
She reported the attack to her grandmother, who accompanied her to the police. A formal report was filed, and the man was arrested and convicted.
