The Malawi Police Service is looking for a traffic officer from Limbe Police Station after a video allegedly showing him receiving K20,000 from a minibus driver went viral on social media.
The video started circulating on August 27, 2026 and allegedly shows the officer taking the money from the driver after stopping the minibus, which reportedly did not have valid motor insurance.
According to a situation report seen by Malawi Voice, the matter has been registered under reference number LB/CR/0056/08/2026.
The report says investigations are underway and police are working to locate the suspected officer, who is currently at large.
The identity of the minibus driver involved has not yet been established, while police are also investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged payment.
The development comes amid growing concerns over allegations of corruption involving some traffic police officers, particularly following the circulation of videos allegedly showing officers receiving money from motorists.
The Malawi Police Service is yet to say whether the officer has been arrested or what charges he may face once located.
