China is bringing fighter jets, tankers and helicopters to Africa’s most powerful military’s home ground for a major display

The airshow, now in its second iteration, underscores Egypt’s strategic partnership with key allies, among which China plays a prominent role.

The airshow is set to take place at the El Alamein International Airport on Egypt’s Mediterranean coast, between the 8th and 10th of September.

In the airshow’s first iteration in 2024, China showcased an aircraft lineup that featured Y-20 transport aircraft and J-10 performance jets.

This year, however, some of China’s showcases will include early warning aircraft, tankers, and helicopters, showcasing the PLA Air Force's system-of-systems operational capability, Song Zhongping, a Chinese military affairs expert, told the Global Times.

According to the Chinese expert, some of the advantages of utilizing China-made aircraft include autonomy and domestic maintenance.

He noted that Chinese aircraft can be used completely independently of China’s involvement as well as being maintained domestically.

He added that China's defense exports are provided without political conditions, describing the approach as one designed to offer customers long-term support.

Song also revealed that China's arms exports are not intended to alter regional power dynamics, but rather to help countries strengthen their defense capabilities and contribute to peace and stability.

The airshow is being held alongside the China-Egypt Eagles of Civilization 2026 joint military training exercise.

Eagles of Civilization between China and Egypt

China and Egypt have conducted the second edition of their joint air exercise, Eagles of Civilization 2026, as the two countries deepen military cooperation.

The exercise began on August 22 at several Egyptian air bases and was scheduled to run from mid-August to early September.

It involved multi-role fighter aircraft and focused on air-combat tactics, air-superiority operations, combat search and rescue, and joint planning and management of air operations.

This initiative succeeds the inaugural “Eagles of Civilization” training conducted in 2025, during which China deployed a comprehensive air force package to Egypt, comprising J-10C fighter jets, KJ-500 airborne early warning aircraft, and YY-20 aerial refueling tankers.

China is hardly the only global superpower invested in Egypt’s air defense system.

Russia to display exclusive weapons system in Egypt

Recently, reports indicated that Rostec, Russia's leading defense enterprise, announced plans to present a currently classified weapon system integrated with its Su-57E export fighter aircraft at the El Alamein International Airshow.

    According to an official statement issued by the Russian state defense enterprise, the aircraft is scheduled to display **previously undisclosed weapons**, both domestically and internationally, while performing aerobatic maneuvers during the flight demonstration, as seen on the DefenseBlog.

“The Su-57 is the flagship fighter of the Russian Air Force, whose performance has been confirmed in real combat conditions,” Rostec’s statement reads.

“Now this aircraft is also winning export markets.

Rostec withheld both details of the new weaponry and the specific foreign nations that have purchased the Su-57E.

To date, no sovereign state has officially confirmed operational deployment of the Su-57E.
